- T.Y. of Texas is wrong. I would debate him myself, and I'm not even a financial expert. Annuities are a good idea if part of an overall strategy or portfolio, but in many cases many older people are sold into the idea that annuities are the safest investment. Yet my own mother's annuities came close to being lost twice (in both cases the almost bankrupt company was bought out). When investing one should also investigate the company behind the investment

- Thank you for your great, informative website. As a financial advisor who's main business is annuities, I agree with 100% of your advice. I hope people find your website before being "sold" an annuity by the many crooked advisors out there.

- I have had annuities for 20 years. My variable annuity lost money but several years ago I switched to an index annuity, and I have not and will not lose a penny from now on. Asking the salesperson their commission is stupid, I don't care. What I do care about are the benefits to me. Do you ask your doctor how much he/she makes on your office visit, how much your CPA makes when he/she does your tax return, or how much the bank president makes when you buy a C.D.

- Your advice is very narrow and lacking in facts. I will publicly debate your so called stinkers, if you desire to do so. For example, if someone can get access to their yields without penalty and have other funds for emergencies, how is that a stinker?
